We should always look at ways we can bring connection to our family, but there’s never a better time than Valentine’s Day, where we focus on loving our family members.

Parent and child yoga session is a great experience as you creates new adventures, get to test out new postures, spend time with your child and build a new level of relationship with them! On top of that, practising yoga with your child can be so much fun - with loads of laughter as you topple over each other, and stretching your bodies together with love and compassion!

When the pace of family life speeds up and everyone is pulled in different directions, a small yoga break with both parent and child is an easy way to connect and practice mindfulness. Pausing from the constant hustle and make time to stop and have fun with your child. Even with no experience in yoga, there are plenty of postures that are easily accessible as well as fun. Partner yoga with the child is a wonderful way to be fully present together. It is important to factor in time to spend together, playing physical games to get active and healthy, and especially, to have a great fun for all.

By practising yoga together, as mother and child, both will learn self care. This is an important lesson - when the parent is kind to self, the child will not only see this, but follow suit. These yoga poses requires teamwork, which allows both parent and child to cooperate and feel the importance of each other.

Communication plays an important role here, so as to let your partner know what poses feel good and what might feel like too deep a stretch. This is a good opportunity to teach your child how to check in, assert his or her needs, and develop a non-verbal sense of another person’s physical comfort level.
